YORK COUNTY ARES

ARES is a public service organization coordinated by the American Radio Relay League. It consists of licensed
Amateur Radio Operators who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment
to provide emergency communications for public service events as needed.
The York County ARES group has been formed by the appointment on July 27, 2000 of Don Lewis, AE4TY and Harold Willis, W4HEW as Co-Emergency Coordinators for York County, by South Carolina SEC Gerald Hensley, K8AFP. An organizational meeting was held on the air on Monday evening July 31, 2000 using the simplex frequency 146.58 MHz. Preliminary discussions were conducted regarding the requirements of the York County community and the qualifications necessary to fulfill the commitments that may be requested of and ARES organization. To provide vital emergency communication services for various organizations the York County ARES Organization needs the active participation of every licensed amateur radio operator in the county. We therefore invite all interested operators to become active participants in York County ARES. A training program is under development, which shall equip each of us to provide meaningful service to our community. We will hone our skills and become a valuable resource for emergency management officials in this region and beyond. For further information please contact any of those indicated below....
