Welcome to Carolina Collections

Vintage Radio Equipment

My name is Bob Bacharach and my amateur radio callsign is WA2EMF. I have been a licensed ham operator since 1959 and have enjoyed operating radios from many of the fine American manufacturers as well as the offerings of foreign companies.

Names such as Hammarlund, Hallicrafters, Harvey-Wells, Heathkit, WRL/Globe, E.F. Johnson, Gonsett, National, Swan, B & W, and of course Collins were found on the front panels of the most popular amateur radio equipment.

It is my belief that a guided tour back to what I refer to as the adolescence of amateur radio provides insights about the hobby as it was so that each of us, newly-licensed and experienced operator can appreciate what the hobby can be!

Please stay tuned to this frequency and check into the net often, as more history is added. And if you’re in York County South Carolina, drop in to the clubhouse of the York County Amateur Radio Society. Speak to our members. Visit our museum. Most of the gear still works. And.... has the warm glow of vacuum tubes.

73, Bob WA2EMF
